VOLUNTEERING

Volunteers and Track Officials play a crucial role in the success of every BMX event, both on and off the track.

Various positions must be filled each time we are open to ensure the smooth running for our riders.

We utilise the Volunteer Signup system, click on an event in the calendar and the link to volunteer is there.

As a non-profit organisation, we depend on the dedication of our volunteers, and in appreciation of their support, we are pleased to waive the session fee for one rider in the session you assist. For instance, if you are serving as a track official during an open gate event, your rider will not be required to pay for that evening. We still ask that you register at the nom hut to ensure licenses are up to date.

This benefit is extended to all officials and volunteers from any club.

We also will continue to hold free Volunteers Gate Sessions with a sausage sizzle throughout the year and a “Parents/Guardian Only Volunteer night” at a local venue.

If you wish to volunteer (official) on the track, you will need to complete some online training via AusCycling and be at least a Volunteer member with AusCycling (which is free) too. For pathways, please click here or chat to an official at the track, we'd be more than happy to help and show you the ropes and have you shadow an existing official until you feel comfortable in the role. With roles ranging from Gate Starter, Berm Official, Staging Coordinator and Nomination & Scoring; we have roles for everyone.

For those existing officials (Commissaire), you can check what is required to renew your status via this link.

Canteen Volunteers are asked to complete safe food handling training (free) - link here, wear enclosed shoes and tie your hair back when in the canteen.

Please refer to the Events Calendar for specific dates and volunteer roles available. Each event has a link to our track official volunteer system where you can place your name against a role, and the canteen volunteers are via the Facebook group.

Canteen

From preparation to serving or running the till, we have a great variety of roles that will suit! The canteen will allow anyone 13+ to assist however the fryers are only to be operated by the Canteen Manager or their delegate over the age if 18. We prefer if you do have an AusCycling Volunteer Membership, that is free, which assists in the event of any insurance claim.

First AID

Mandatory at all times, the clubs have a designated contractor fulfilling this role for every race event, but require this role to be filled on gates nights (coaches are required to have first aid). We mandate the presence of at least one individual with basic first aid and CPR skills for each session held.

Track Officials, Track crew & Race Director

From gate starter to staging, we are seeking to fill 8 positions for each race event and up to 5 positions for each gates session. The adage "many hands make light work" rings true when it comes to the smooth operation of any event.

To be involved in roles on or near the track, completion of the 'BMX Club Official' course is a prerequisite. We offer officials training sessions year-round to aid you in obtaining this certification at no cost.

Once certified, you will be paired with a seasoned official to observe and apply your learning in practice. Rest assured, you will never be tasked with a role you have not previously undertaken solo.

Our Track Crew are a dedicate group of volunteers that perform track maintenance and associated tasks. They often work when racing is not on, such as when the track is being repaired or improved. We provide all the training you need to perform these tasks. No track crew, no amazing track! Have a chat to one of the Club or Facility Committee members to find out more.

To volunteer as a track official, please click the link in the calendar for each event. This will show you which positions are available & need to be filled for each event. We have a special field there for people wanting to learn the ropes and we will ensure you feel fully supported in any role before you attempt it on your own.

Nomination & Race Scoring

During coaching and gate sessions, we are in need of an individual to verify licenses and handle payments at the nomination hut. This position is situated indoors (with air conditioning!) and necessitates fundamental computer and financial competencies.

We utilize the SQORZ software for all sessions, and we are ready to provide training and support until you are proficient on your own.

During race events and gate sessions, we rely on the SQORZ software for event entry and scoring. Although it may require some time to grasp the rules and procedures for a seamless and accurate race, the software simplifies the process for easy navigation.

Our experienced scoring team is enthusiastic about demonstrating the functionality and guiding you through the learning curve. Like the track officials, please put your name down in the volunteers app so we can touch base with you and get you started.
